Creator: Peredo, Mauricio
Stern, David P. (David Peter), 1931-
Description: This Web site contains a collection of information about the magnetic space environment around Earth, developed by a retired space physicist. It includes a Spanish version (MIntro.html) and one in French (incomplete), glossary, timeline, Q&A, a teacher's introduction to the Earth's magnetosphere, teaching about magnetism with classroom demonstrations. and articles on Birth of a Radiation Belt and Secrets of the Polar Aurora. The emphasis of the site is on history, conceptual understanding, and basics such as electrons, ions and their motion in space, plasmas and energy. The site also covers planetary magnetospheres, cosmic rays, space weather, selected missions, a paper model of the magnetosphere, and a project for plotting interplanetary field lines.
