Description: This site uses the example of Native American rug weaving to demonstrate the mathematical concept of Cartesian coordinates. The unit provides a background on the cultural tradition of rug weaving. An interactive applet is also included, which lets students design their own geometric weaving pattern. This interdisciplinary unit may be useful in classrooms learning about Native American culture and mathematics simultaneously.
